NAZCA – Institute for Marine Research
Our mission is to deepen the knowledge on the marine-coastal ecosystems of the tropic-equatorial pacific and to promote the conservation of biodiversity as a value of worldwide importance. Moreover, we aim to develop strategies for the sustainable use of marine resources that at the same time fit in our conservation objectives and assure the long-term wellbeing of humans depending on these resources.

Ciencia Ciudadana
La ciencia ciudadana es un movimiento que cada vez cobra más importancia a nivel mundial. La ciencia ciudadana se refiere a la contribución de los ciudadanos a la generación de conocimiento e información científica. La información generada por voluntarios en colaboración con expertos ayuda a detectar asuntos antes desapercibidos, a identificar y llenar vacíos de información y apoya la toma de decisiones. A nivel político, la ciencia ciudadana promueve el involucramiento activo de las personas e invita al intercambio, a la co-creación, a la transparencia y confianza entre diferentes sectores de la sociedad. A través de la ciencia ciudadana se amplía el conocimiento y se gana conciencia acerca de comportamientos y actitudes a ajustar para cambiar prácticas perjudiciales y mejorar la calidad de vida.
El Instituto Nazca de Investigaciones Marinas en conjunto con el Ministerio del Ambiente de Ecuador y su nodo GBIF, el Ministerio de Turismo, el Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas/Centro de Investigaciones del Mar/Natusfera (España), la Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador (PUCE), la Fundación Charles Darwin, la Universidad San Francisco de Quito (USFQ) y Conservación Internacional Ecuador estamos organizando una serie de eventos que se realizarán entre el 2 y 13 de octubre de 2018 en Quito, Puerto Ayora y Santa Elena.

Official Blue Economy Consultancy — Pacífico-FFEM Project
Fundación Pacífico (PACÍFICO) is a coordination platform made up of four environmental funds: Fundación Patrimonio Natural, Fondo Acción, Asociación Costa Rica por Siempre, and Fundación Natura, which mobilizes financial resources for the implementation of conservation actions for the marine-coastal resources of the Eastern Tropical Pacific. It was established in 2017 and is registered in Panama. It has a Board of Directors made up of one representative from each of the four founding environmental funds, who work to ensure the effective and transparent management of the resources raised and generated. PACÍFICO has its own multidisciplinary teams for the projects under its charge, along with a set of guidelines through which it seeks to guarantee efficient and transparent administrative, technical, and financial management.
With the aim of strengthening Blue Economy models that contribute to generating environmental, social, and financial impacts in the Central Eastern Tropical Pacific, PACÍFICO and the French Government, through the French Facility for Global Environment (FFEM), support Instituto NAZCA with a grant for the implementation of Blue Economy initiatives under the project "Pacífico – Regional Marine Conservation in the Central Eastern Tropical Pacific" (PACÍFICO-FFEM).
